Abstract
Countries offer hundreds of billions of dollars for semiconductor, electric vehicles and renewable energy projects, super-charging a global FDI incentives race. This Perspective distinguishes between financial, fiscal and other incentives. It suggests that, to get the best deal, countries that provide financial and fiscal incentives should do so in a manner that results in wider benefits for the host economy—and it outlines how this can be done.
